Ole Miss beats Auburn with walk-off HR on attempted intentional walk (GIF)

Ole Miss turned an intentional walk into a walk-off home run to knock off Auburn in 13 innings Friday night.

The bizarre ending occurred when Auburn reliever Jay Wade attempted to intentionally walk Austin Anderson with two runners in scoring position, but lobbed his first pitch into the strike zone and the third baseman drilled a three-run bomb over the right-field fence for the 8-5 victory.

"He tried to sneak another one by me, and I just tried to hit it as hard and as far as I could," Anderson told the Jackson (Miss.) Clarion-Ledger.

That at-bat would have been Anderson's third IBB of the night. So it seems reasonable he just wanted to take a swing at something.

Florida State and the University of Florida faced off on Tuesday, and the in-state rivalry turned physical with the Gators up 3-0 in the eighth inning.

Apparently a collision at first base sparked this benches-clearing brawl between the two teams.

Jacksonville police had to break up the scrap before things got out of hand, restraining various players — including two-sport star Jameis Winston.

In all, three players were ejected from the game: Gators'  infielder Zack Powers and LHP Danny Young, as well as Seminoles outfielder D.J. Stewart.

Florida went on to upset No. 1 Florida State, 4-1.

Snubbed SMU joins St. John's, Minnesota, Florida St. as No.1 seeds in NIT

The 2014 National Invitation Tournament field was announced Sunday night, with Larry Brown and NCAA Tournament snub SMU not surprisingly earning one of the top seeds in the event.

The Mustangs, the first ranked team to be left out of the NCAA field since Utah State in 2004, will open against Big West regular season champion UC Irvine on Wednesday night.

Minnesota, Florida State and St. John's are the other No. 1 seeds.

Automatic bids included UC Irvine (Big West), Utah Valley (WAC), Robert Morris (NEC), Green Bay (Horizon), Belmont (Ohio Valley), Georgia State (Sun Belt), Boston University (Patriot League), High Point (Big South), Davidson (Southern), Florida Gulf Coast (Atlantic Sun), Louisiana Tech (Conference USA), Iona (MAAC) and Vermont (America East).

The high number of automatic qualifiers (13) — teams that won the regular season title in their conference but were bounced in the league tourney — forced NIT-worthy teams like Maryland, Wake Forest, Indiana and Marquette out of the mix.

In the end though, it was their weak non-conference schedule that left the 25th ranked SMU out of The Big Dance. 

Doug McDermott recreates classic Larry Bird SI cover (PHOTO)

It's easy to compare Doug McDermott's blue collar game to Larry Bird's, but this inspired idea from Sports Illustrated is on the spot.

This week's magazine features probable Player of the Year McDermott striking the same pose as Bird, flanked by two hushed cheerleaders (in this case Bluejays dancers Kelsey Saddoris and Kayleigh Begley), that graced the cover on Nov. 28, 1977.

McDermott and 14th-ranked Creighton are the No. 2 seed in this week's Big East tournament, which gets underway Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden. The Bluejays will play the winner of Georgetown-DePaul at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Nebraska basketball player proposes to his girlfriend during Senior Night speech (VIDEO)

Nebraska senior Mike Peltz gave a great speech before the Cornhuskers’ Senior Night game against Wisconsin, but it wasn't his pep talk that got the packed Pinnacle Bank Arena crowd cheering.

The reserve guard told the fans in attendance that there would be no sitting or kneeling for the duration of the game, but he was going to make one exception — to kneel down and propose to his girlfriend.

The best part is when the crowd, and then his girlfriend, figure out what’s happening and the place erupts.

Happily, she said yes.

Nebraska head coach Tim Miles must have figured that the seldom-used Peltz already had enough court action because he kept him on the bench all game during the Cornhuskers' 77-68 upset of #9 Wisconsin.

Kansas' Wayne Selden takes out front row to save ball (VIDEO)

In a showdown of Top 25 teams on Tuesday, Kansas guard Wayne Selden made one of the plays of the night — thanks to a great effort. 

The Jayhawks freshman jumped over the scorer's table and into the crowd in order to save a loose ball against Baylor. He was rewarded for his effort. The ball went right to teammate Joel Embiid, who turned it into two points.

And no one got hurt.

UK's Aaron Harrison exchanges words with Arkansas fan (PHOTOS)

There's nothing worse than being on the short end of a thrilling overtime loss to a conference rival — except maybe the walk of shame through the other team's home arena.

As he was leaving the floor at Bud Walton Arena after UK’s 87-85 overtime loss to the Razorbacks, UK’s Aaron Harrison and an Arkansas fan exchanged words.

Herald-Leader photographer Mark Cornelison got a couple of pictures of the brief encounter.

Luckily, UK assistant coach Orlando Antigua stepped in and separated the two before matters got out of hand.

Don't know exactly what was said, but the Kenan Thompson lookalike probably wasn't saying, "Live from Fayetteville ... it's Tuesday night."
