Police pull Maria Sharapova over … to take her picture

Tennis star Maria Sharapova had a little scare after being pulled over by police during a recent trip to Germany. The 28-year-old Sharapova was pulled over by cops during an early-morning drive through the town of Dusseldorf.

But it wasn’t because she was breaking the law — the German officers simply wanted to get a photograph with the Russian beauty.

The pro tennis star didn't seem too perturbed by the flashing lights or the flashbulbs. She can be seen smiling brightly with a female officer in the photo she posted on Twitter.

Sharapova wouldn't be racing to any tournaments anyway. She has been sidelined for most of the year due to injury. The five-time Grand Slam champion had to withdraw from the Wuhan Open last week, in her first match in three months, because of an arm injury.

Next time you're reading a newspaper article about Maria Sharapova, don't be surprised if the No. 4-ranked female tennis player in the world is reading over your shoulder — even if you're flying in coach.

The  27-year-old beauty recently lost in the third round at the inaugural Wuhan Open and was (presumably) flying to Beijing where she'll take part in the China Open next week. A nosy Sharapova noticed the guy in front of her reading an article about her ... and snapped this newspaper selfie.

A-Rod making the rounds in Miami while rehabbing hip

Alex Rodriguez's surgically-repaired hip seems to be coming along quite well these days.  The New York Yankees third baseman isn't letting the rehabbing hip or MLB investigators breathing down his neck about that pesky Biogenesis thing keep himself from getting around the Miami area.

The Yankees slugger was spotted Sunday with his girlfriend Torrie Wilson and golfer Greg Norman taking in Maria Sharapova's match the Sony Open the day after dining with two friends dining at Bianca in the Delano in South Beach on Saturday night, reports The New York Post.

A-Rod, who's in rehab after having hip surgery in January, stood up and talked with New York Giant Andre Brown, a source told The Post.  The spy said Rodriguez "looked happy and in great shape."

Hey. Any bit of good news from the Yankees M*A*S*H Unit is great news these days — even if it is about the team's pariah.

Serena Williams not sure if she'll 'Crip Walk' at U.S. Open

Serena Williams was so happy at winning gold at the 2012 Olympic Games this month she broke into a dance.  At first, people paid little attention to the tennis star's well deserved two-step — after defeating  Maria Sharapova for her first singles gold medal — until they found it it was called the "Crip Walk" dance.

There was a huge uproar after it was discovered Williams' five-second victory shuffle was made famous by Crip gang members back in the 1970's and the little hip-hop dance was considered a salute to violent gang culture.

Williams says her spur of the moment celebration was just something that happened and had nothing to do with gangs.

"It was me.  I love to dance," Williams told reporters who asked her about the moves.  "I didn't know what else to do.  I was so happy, and the next thing I know I started dancing and moving.  I didn't plan it.  It just happened."

Now tennis fans are wondering.  Will she do the Crip Walk dance at the U.S. Open?  The 14-time grand slam winner isn't sure and claims she has nothing planned for next month's tournament in Flushing, N.Y..

"I have to win seven matches, so we'll see," she said at a Taste of Tennis charity event.

Williams says she is still enjoying her Olympics win.  Planning a funky little victory dance is probably the last thing on her mind right now.

It's hard to believe the dance created such a firestorm, but she must have done it pretty good to get a thumbs up (gang sign?) from Snoop Dog.
