Harbaugh says Ray Rice, fiancee to attend couples seminar: Report

Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and his fiancee plan to attend a couples seminar as they continue to work on their relationship following a physical altercation between them in February at an Atlantic City casino, according to coach John Harbaugh.

Rice and Janay Palmer were both arrested and charged with simple assault-domestic violence after the February 15 incident. The couple remains engaged to be married, according to Harbaugh.

Harbaugh said that Rice's account of what transpired between him and the mother of his child has remained the same and has matched up with the information the team has gathered about the pending legal situation.

"I've talked to Ray a lot, and really nothing to add other than what's been said already: The facts will determine the consequences, and we'll see where it goes," Harbaugh said Wednesday at a press conference for tight end Dennis Pitta. "I haven't seen anything different, just like you haven't seen anything different. Ray has told me his side of it, and everything we've seen so far is very consistent with what he said."

"There's nothing he has said that hasn't turned out to be the case. I know Ray is going to spend a week at a seminar type of thing as a couples type deal," he added. " He's doing everything he can to do what he needs to do and make things right."

Rice's court appearance was postponed after police referred the case to prosecutors for review. No new date has been set.

Atlantic City police have said they asked the county prosecutor's office to review the case and "ensure appropriate charges are considered." That review is ongoing, officials with the Atlantic County Office of the Prosecutor said Wednesday.

The NFL will review what happened under the league's personal-conduct policy.

At the NFL scouting combine in February, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome addressed the TMZ video that shows Rice dragging an unconscious Palmer from an elevator at Revel Casino, admitting it was a troubling image.

But Newsome said that he was encouraged that Rice and his fiancee are in counseling.

Brandon Jacobs hints at Giants return via Instagram

How much does Brandon Jacobs miss playing for the New York Giants?  Enough for the running back to post a photo of himself as a Giants player bowling over a Patriots player on Instagram with the caption: "Trying to get back in this uniform."

Jacobs — who spent the first seven years of his career with the Giants before being released after the 2011 season and getting picked up by the San Francisco 49ers — is no stranger to making his feelings known via Instagram. Last December, Jacobs was suspended for the final three games by 49ers head coach John Harbaugh for a series of posts criticizing his situation with the team.

“I am on this team rotting away so why would I wanna put any pics up of anything that say niners.” A disgruntled Jacobs said on Instagram on Dec. 9. “This is by far the worst year I ever had, I’ll tell you like I told plenty others.”

Maybe this time Instagram will work in his favor.

Last season, Jacobs appeared in two games (rushing for seven yards on five carries) for the Niners after gaining 4,849 career yards rushing for the Giants.  His best year was in 2008 when he rumbled for 1,089 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Whether or not the Giants even have an interest in the 31-year-old bulldozer remains to be seen.  The G-Men released Ahmad Bradshaw earlier this offseason, leaving only 2012 first-round pick, David Wilson, as the primary running back.  Andre Brown showed some potential and is expected to see increased time as the backup.

Jacobs signed a complicated one-year deal with the 49ers after the Giants felt what he was asking was about $500,000 too rich for their blood.  Even that kid who mailed $3.36 to keep Jacobs in MetLife Stadium couldn't help.

Always a fan favorite with Big Blue fans in the Meadowlands, Jacobs' popularity seemed to taper off as fast as his stats during his last few years with the Giants.

Jacobs tweeted Monday that he's headed to New York this weekend — so who knows?

John Harbaugh tells Letterman he hasn't spoken to brother Jim since Super Bowl

John Harbaugh sat down with David Letterman on "The Late Show" last night and revealed that he hasn't spoken to his brother Jim since the post-game handshake after his Baltimore Ravens narrowly beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII Sunday night.

At the traditional midfield meeting, the winning coach lightheartedly admitted to Letterman that he told his steamed brother —who was on the short end of the 34-31 loss — "I love you."

Jim Harbaugh's last words to his victorious bro were,"Congratulations."

John joked that they haven't said a word since.

Harbaugh's chat with the late night host went along these lines:

Letterman: “Have you spoken to him since?”

Harbaugh: “I have not.  We have not had a conversation since.  We will – soon.”

Letterman: “Did you ever get a sense growing up that there was favoritism from one to the other? Were you the favorite? Was Jim the favorite?”

Harbaugh: “I felt like Jim was the favorite pretty much our whole [life] – I did, I did.  Jim felt like he was the favorite, but the truth, Joani, our sister, she was truly the favorite. She was the little baby girl.”

Letterman: “Joani…now where does she coach?”

Letterman: “When will you talk to your brother?”

Harbaugh: “I’m hoping, you know, sometime soon. We actually, we have meetings coming up, we have a combine in two weeks."

Letterman: “Is there animosity?”

Harbaugh: “No, no. You know what there is?”

Letterman: “Is he feeling bad? Do you need to reach out to him?”

Harbaugh: “He’s playing golf today. He’s playing golf, yeah.  No, there’s no consolation. There’s no way that you console your brother. Anybody that has a brother knows that.  You don’t console your brother. It doesn’t work.”

Letterman: “Not having a brother, I have two sisters and it’s unlikely that any of us would have coached a Super Bowl game, so I don’t know what this is. I don’t know what this is.  Do you wake up thinking, ‘Oh, thank God I beat him,’ or, ‘Oh, I won, but, oh, too bad.’  I just don’t know what that is.”

Harbaugh: “You know, you do wake up thinking, ‘Thank God I beat him.’  You do, yes.  It would have been a long life, you know?”

The NFL Scouting Combines are in two weeks and John was optimistic the two brothers would have to run into each other then.

Jim Harbaugh: I thought entire team 'competed like maniacs'

Colin Kaepernick kicked off his NFL playoff career with flying colors Saturday and — after the 49ers quarterback shredded the Packers defense for 181 yards on the ground and 263 through the air — head coach Jim Harbaugh finally had good reason to stop his hand-wringing about replacing Alex Smith with his record-setting QB.

If Harbaugh was breathing easy about making the right choice with his precocious new quarterback and the 45-31 victory, he wasn't gloating about it after the game.

As the 49ers prepare to face the winner of the Seahawks-Falcons game in the NFC Championship Game next Sunday, a solemn Harbaugh gave credit to the entire Niners squad and said it was a "great team victory" and that they "competed like maniacs," at his postgame presser.

Harbaugh is in the NFC title game for the second straight year, and it gives him a chance to meet his big brother, Ravens coach John Harbaugh, in the Super Bowl if everything falls in place.

Asked at what point he found out his brother had won his game against the Broncos, the 49ers coach tried to brush off the hypothetical question but said, "Somewhere in the first quarter, I believe...

"We want to study for the (NFC Championship Game) test," he added.
