Yankees’ Aaron Hicks records 105 mph throw from left field to home on double play (VIDEO)

There seems to be a statistic for every aspect of baseball these days and Aaron Hicks just put name in the books for probably one of the most obscure.

The Yankees left fielder started in place of Brett Gardner Wednesday night and in the fourth inning turned in a double play with a rocket of a throw from deep in the outfield.

The A's had already scored three runs in the inning when Yonder Alonso came to bat with the bases loaded. The Oakland first baseman skied a fly ball to left field with that Hicks hauled in. The left fielder then delivered a one-hop strike home to catcher Brian McCann to gun down DH Danny Valencia tagging up from third. The double play ended the inning.

MLB Statcast registered the throw at 105.5 mph — the fastest ever by an outfielder.

"When you know your ball's not tailing and you've got that nice four-seam going straight, you know you're going to get a solid hop," Hicks said of the throw. "I did today."

Hicks had an opportunity on a similar play earlier in the inning, but his throw home got away from McCann.

The young outfielder may have a cannon of an arm, but the Yankees' bats are still pop-guns. They lost, 5-2.

It was only the second inning of the AL Wild Card game and Yankee catcher Brian McCann already had enough of the strike zone calls which he felt were going in the Astros favor.

And after an already frustrated McCann grounded out to third in his first at-bat, he carried his anger back to the dugout with him and let loose a primal F-bomb for the ages.

And if anyone is offended or MLB is thinking of fining or reprimanding McCann — you want up close to the action, you got up close to the action.

Yankees beat Astros 1-0 with a 'no-hits' ninth inning walk-off rally (VIDEO)

Carlos Beltran lofted a sacrifice fly to deep center field off Chad Qualls in the bottom of the ninth inning, driving home Brett Gardner with the only run of the game as the New York Yankees defeated the Houston Astros, 1-0, on Monday night at Yankee Stadium.

Nothing exceptional except the that the Yankees did it with a "no-hits" ninth-inning rally for the walk-off victory.

The Yankees scored the winning run on 3 walks and a sac fly for the dramatic win after an old-fashioned pitching duel between Nathan Eovaldi and Scott Feldman.

The Yankees' Eovoldi blanked the Astros over eight innings of four-hit ball, striking out seven around three walks, while Feldman held the home team to six singles over eight scoreless innings, walking none and striking out six.

Oliver Perez issued the three walks (one intentional) and threw a wild pitch in the ninth, loading the bases and prompting Houston to call upon losing pitcher Qualls.

"We've got guys who don't chase out of the zone," Yankees catcher Brian McCann said after the game. "We're going to make you throw strikes. We were able to get three walks in the ninth, and Carlos with the big hit."

Beltran — who became only the sixth player in MLB history to play 1,ooo games in both the American and National League, credited the "no  hits" rally to plate discipline.

Houston Astros pitcher Brett Oberholtzer got rocked early by the New York Yankees on Saturday, allowing a grand slam to catcher Brian McCann and a two-run dinger to outfielder Chris Young — all before he was out of the second inning. So the frustrated lefty took out his anger out on Alex Rodriguez by intentionally throwing a fastball at A-Rod's midsection.

CC Sabathia took offense at the bush league tactic and the Yankees pitcher had to be held back by manager Joe Girardi after the big guy hopped out of the dugout.

Oberholtzer, who just took a beating from McCann and Young, wanted no part of CC's wrath and meekly retreated to the Astros dugout — without even waiting for the umpire to give him the thumb.

It'll be interesting to see what happens the next time CC and Oberholtzer meet in a big league park.

Or not. Since Obie was almost immediately sent down to Triple-A.

Yankees minor leaguer drilled in head, pitcher ejected (VIDEO)

New York Yankees minor league catcher Austin Romine, of Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, had to leave the game Friday night after he was hit in the head with a pitch.

The pitcher — Lester Oliveros of the Minnesota Twins' affiliate Rochester Red Wings — was immediately ejected. Oliveros had just surrendered back-to-back home runs immediately before taking aim at Romine, who fell to the ground in pain.

The benches cleared immediately after the drilling. Romine's condition was unclear after undergoing testing.

Romine battled with John Ryan Murphy for the Yankees' backup catcher job, behind starter Brian McCann, in spring training. Romine — who is batting .242 with four home runs and 22 RBIs — has played 76 big-league games but none this season.

Napoli calls Tanaka 'idiot' after serving up game-winning fastball (VIDEO)

Masahiro Tanaka probably didn't know the English word idiot from idol before Mike Napoli smashed a game-winning fastball off the Japanese pitcher Saturday night. But there was no need for a translator after the Yankees' ace shook off catcher Brian McCann's call for a splitter, then a slider before generously serving Napoli an ill-advised fastball.

FOX video cameras caught Napoli calling Tanaka the I-Word after he drilled a two-out, two-strike homer off of him in the ninth inning (Video at bottom) to give the Red Sox a thrilling 2-1 win at Yankee Stadium. 

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal later caught up with Napoli, who backpedaled on the comment.

"Nothing toward him," Napoli said, according to Rosenthal. "I thought he was going to throw me a split in the dirt. He had been getting me out all night on it."

Idiot in Boston is still a good thing. Right?

Mets celebrate win over Yankees before game is officially over (VIDEO)

Lucas Duda made an outstanding diving catch to start a game-ending double play against the Yankees Monday night. As soon as Brian McCann was called out at first, the jack-upped  Mets players started celebrating a thrilling 9-7 victory over their crosstown rivals.

Only one problem — the game wasn't officially over yet.



The bizarre situation transpired while the Mets were high-fiving each other on the field and Yankees manager Joe Girardi ran out of the dugout to challenge the call at first base. After a few awkward moments, the umpires walked off the field and Girardi withdrew his request.

And Duda's defensive gem was one for the books.
