Pacers’ Chris Copeland, wife stabbed outside Manhattan nightclub: Report

Indiana Pacers forward Chris Copeland, was stabbed—along with his wife and another woman — outside of a trendy night club in Manhattan early Wednesday, said NYPD sources.

The 31-year-old Copeland, was arguing with his wife outside the infamous Chelsea hotspot 1Oak Club on West 17th Street around 4 a.m. when the 22-year-old suspect interrupted them, according to the N.Y. Post.

Copeland reportedly told the man to get lost, which is when the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed Copeland in the stomach.

He then turned the blade on the basketball player’s wife, Katrine Saltara, and stabbed her in the breast, buttocks and arm, police sources said. Another woman, who was known to the stabber, was also attacked.

Copeland and his wife were rushed to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, authorities said. The other woman was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital, authorities said.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody at the scene and charges against him are pending. A knife was recovered.

Two players from the Atlanta Hawks were also taken into police custody after they refused to get out of the crime scene, sources said.

Pero Antic was charged with obstructing governmental administration, disorderly conduct and menacing, sources said. Thabo Sefolosha was charged with resisting arrest as well as obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct, sources said.

It wasn’t immediately clear what set off the violent scene outside the notorious celebrity hangout.

Copeland has sort of a familiarity with the NYC club scene. He played 56 games for the New York Knicks from 2012 to 2013.

The Pacers are in town playing the Knicks. Their next game is Wednesday at 7:30 p.m at Madison Square Garden.

The Hawks are in town playing the Brooklyn Nets.

Clippers' Glen Davis takes out kid in stands (VIDEO)

Los Angeles Clippers big man Glen Davis is 6'9'' and 289 pounds, so he's probably the last person you would want to fall on you while watching a game — especially when you stand about 5-foot and 100 pounds soaking wet yourself.

On Tuesday night, while trying to save a loose ball against the Atlanta Hawks, Davis lost his balance (after getting a hip check from Kyle Korver) and stumbled into the stands. Unfortunately, two kids were seated directly in the path of the sprawling Big Baby.

Davis managed to avoid stomping on the boy seated on the court near the basket but, the next kid in his path wasn’t so lucky.

Eyeglasses were tossed, but nobody was flattened.

Deron Williams not going to London with Nets: Report

Deron Williams' return from his latest ankle injury won't be happening across the pond this week.

The Brooklyn Nets announced Sunday that their starting point guard didn't accompany the team Sunday night on its overseas trip for a game against the Atlanta Hawks at O2 Arena in London on Thursday, meaning he'll miss his fifth straight game.

Williams had platelet-rich plasma therapy on both ankles last week and also received cortisone shots in each ankle after spraining his left ankle three times this season. He was in a walking boot early last week.

After re-evaluating him over the weekend, the Nets apparently believe it best to go the conservative route. D-Will has already sat out 15 games this season because of injuries.

The timing of the six-day road trip might be a blessing in disguise for Williams and the team. The Nets appeared lethargic in a loss to Toronto on Saturday after their big win against the Heat. Now they'll play only one game this week while they wait for Williams to return.

When the Nets and Williams beat the Raptors twice in 2011 in London, it was the first time the NBA had played a regular-season game in Europe.

Williams will stay home for rest and treatment before the Nets return and host the Knicks on Jan. 20.

Atlanta Hawks take shot at Romo via Twitter after Cowboys loss

The Cowboys lost to the Matt Flynn-led Packers in humiliating fashion Sunday with everybody's favorite whipping boy Tony Romo serving up a pair of fourth-quarter interceptions down the stretch. So why would the Atlanta Hawks mock the Cowboys quarterback via Twitter with a photo of Al Horford is anybody's guess.

Oh that's right. Big-time Al had that clutch buzzer-beater Friday night.

Melo rips Knicks' lack of effort after blowout loss

It didn't take long after fans booed the New York Knicks' fifth straight loss at Madison Square Garden, that a disgusted Carmelo Anthony said it looked as if the team wasn't even trying during a lopsided 110-90 loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

"We ain't playing worth a s--- right now," Anthony said. "We got to play harder. 

"I am disappointed too in all of our effort. We are just not getting it done. It ain't nothing that Coach [Mike] Woodson is doing [or not doing]. It ain't got nothing to do with X's and O's out there on the basketball court. We are not getting it done from an effort standpoint. It's like we are not even trying right now."

Even though Anthony says Woodson is not to blame, Knicks fans still briefly chanted "Fire Woodson" in the third quarter.

After the Knicks dropped to 3-and-6, Anthony did not want to discuss orange uniforms or the Knicks City Dancers in the locker room. The frustrated forward was clearly focused on the fact that the Knicks had allowed the Hawks to shoot 56.4 percent and score 48 points in the paint. He said the club isn’t "trying." Anthony even suggested the team may soon dig themselves too deep a hole to recover.

"I’m disappointed in all our effort," Anthony said. "We’re not getting it done from an effort standpoint. It’s like we’re not even trying right now.

"We can’t worry about the boos."

The last time the Knicks had lost five in a row at home was February 2010, when they broke down the team for cap space with hopes of landing LeBron James in the free agency sweepstakes.

That was then but Melo thinks the Knicks time is right now.

"I can’t believe it," said Anthony, soon to be a free agent this summer. "I don’t even know what to say. I’m in awe. I don’t know how to explain it. I don’t know If there is an explanation.

"It’s surprising. To come into the season with a mindset of being better than we were last year and to be where we’re at right now. I know it’s 3-6, but we got to turn this around quickly. It’s a nasty feeling within the team."

And he pinned it squarely on the defense.

"It ain’t got anything to do with making shots and missing shots," said Anthony, who finished with 23 points on 8-of-21 shooting with 12 rebounds. "We’re just not getting it done on the other end. We’re not defending, giving any effort."

Anthony sounded as if he’s hoping for a turnaround before it's too late.

"I know it’s early in the season, but at the rate this is going, we’re going to be in too deep a hole to dig out," he said.

First-round draft pick Lucas 'Bebe' Nogueira's hair a big hit with fans

The Boston Celtics selected Brazilian big man Lucas "Bebe" Nogueira with the 16th pick of the 2013 NBA Draft Thursday night at Barclays Center.  The 20-year-old project with burgeoning offensive skills and giant NBA dreams also comes with something else pretty big —his hair.

While it sounds like the Celtics won't keep him — Yahoo!'s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the pick will go from Boston to Dallas to Atlanta  — but there are many people who believe Nogueira has what it takes.

But that wasn't the big deal last night.  The real story was Nogueira's head of hair, and how he floated a Celtics hat on top of it when he met NBA commissioner David Stern at the podium. The carefully balanced cap resulted in a classic introduction to the NBA.

At least Andrew Bynum probably approves.

Atlanta Hawks Mascot Stopped By Cops On Way To Children's Hospital

The yellow-beaked mascot of the Atlanta Hawks was pulled over by police for a traffic violation while on his way to a children's hospital to deliver toys on Christmas Eve.

The Atlanta crowd pleaser, Harry the Hawk, was  riding in a sled pulled by reindeer when he was stopped by cops— with cruiser lights flashing and sirens wailing— for the flagrant foul on an Atlanta street Saturday.

These Grinch-like officers obviously have some issues with the NBA lockout.

On the eve of the jolliest day of the year—the long-awaited opening day of the NBA season—cops let the angry mascot know that riding in a sled filled with toys pulled by reindeer is only allowed by one special guy in a red suit in Atlanta.

Harry, after a little squawking, was finally allowed back on his way and—along with several Hawks players—made it to the hospital to hand out toys to the children.

No traffic tickets were issued but I bet the cop was tempted to say 'And this one's for making us wait two months for Charles Barkley on TNT.'

Maybe not.
