When spectators at a Maryland wrestling match couldn’t find a flag to salute during the national anthem, they turned to the next best thing — a pair of star-spangled sweat pants.
When the opening strains of The Star-Spangled Banner began, the confused crowd — looking for an American flag to face — turned towards a patriotic spectator rocking the red, white and blue sweats and held their hands on their hearts for the national anthem.
“There wasn’t a flag at all,” said Jamari Woods, who snapped a photo of the scene. “It was all just mats in the middle of the gym.”
The Feb. 21 photo taken by the 15-year-old Woods, a sophomore at Gwynn Park HS in Brandywine, Md., was posted on Reddit and has since become an Internet sensation. “My friends are all saying how famous I am now, ” he told The NewYork Post.
MC Hammer maybe?
Anyway, I pledge allegiance to the ... sweats.
