Manny Machado throws out Yankees' Cruz from another time zone

The Orioles' Manny Machado made what might be the defensive play of the year when he bobbled a hard ground ball from the Yankees' Luis Cruz, picked it up about 10 yards in foul territory and rifled the ball to first base for the out.

Machado, the 21-year-old Orioles' third baseman — who was just named to the AL All-Star squad — proved why he should be a player to watch with this stunning defensive play.

Machado went deep into foul territory to snag the hard-hit grounder, then stopped and fired a strike from almost the left side seats to get the speedy Cruz.
