Siena coach walks through imaginary post-game handshake line after brawl against Rider

In a bizarre scene after the Rider vs. Siena matchup Tuesday night in Albany, Siena head coach Jimmy Patsos ended up walking down an empty post-game handshake line extending his arm and shaking the hands of imaginary players from the Rider squad. 

  

The two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rivals had just finished a game highlighted by fights, ejections and even Patsos going at it with Rider coach Kevin Baggett. 

After Siena's 78-68 win, Patsos followed protocol by walking the traditional line shaking the hands of the non existent Rider team grabbing air.

Things started to get out of hand with 2:03 to play when a fight broke out involving Siena's Marquis Wright and Rider's Anthony Durham. Patsos and  Baggett then got into it, with Baggett ultimately attempting to walk into the Saints' huddle and having to be forcibly restrained by his assistants.

The two players were ejected from the game and both coaches were each dealt technical fouls.

Then, with 10 seconds remaining in the game, Baggett called a timeout where it seems as though he instructed his players to walk off the court at the end of the game without shaking hands. The Bronco players followed their orders and, after the horn sounded, walked off the court leaving the handshake line vacant.

Despite all the noise and confusion, Patsos formed a handshake line without his own players and went through the routine.

Was it good sportsmanship or rubbing it in? Who cares? It's funny.

Slap to face sparks Monmouth-Iona postgame scuffle (VIDEO)

The Monmouth Hawks have been tearing up social media with their hilarious sideline celebrations all season long but, on Friday, those slapstick antics sparked a confrontation complete with a real slap.

The Hawks defeated the Iona Gaels 110-102 in a thrilling MAAC battle, but it was what happened after the game that became the big story.

Here are some clips of the incident, starting with one that shows center Chris Brady being slapped by an Iona player during the handshake line:

Things escalate and it appears an assistant coach is caught in the altercation and pulled to the ground by a member of a coaching staff:



Earlier this week, Iona coach Tom Cluess had some harsh words about the Monmouth celebrations after a big play or basket, so maybe this choreographed display of exuberance on Friday contributed to the postgame drama.

And the Hawks won for the ninth time in their last 10 games, so don't expect the sideline show to end anytime soon.

There aren't many college basketball teams that are having more fun than the Monmouth Hawks so far this season — and are they showing it.

The unheralded New Jersey college basketball squad's antics on the bench started when they topped No. 17 Notre Dame on Thanksgiving. And after a loss to Dayton they ramped up the hilarious celebrations during a win over USC on Sunday.

Monmouth upsets UCLA in OT at Pauley Pavilion (VIDEO)

In what was a long night of college basketball upsets, Monmouth pulled off a big one against one of the most storied programs in college basketball history.

Monmouth — a MAAC school from New Jersey — went across the country to Pauley Pavilion and upset UCLA 84-81 in overtime. Not only that, but the Hawks did it after being down 13 points with 12 minutes left in the game.

Monmouth shouldn't be taken lightly and is one of the better teams in the MAAC. They could make an NCAA Tournament run this season. Plus, UCLA was without Jonah Bolden due to disciplinary reasons.

And it won't get any easier for the Bruins. They still have nonconference games against UNLV, Long Beach State and Louisiana-Lafayette — all of whom figure to be near the top of their leagues — as well as games against three Top Ten teams — North Carolina, Kentucky and Gonzaga.

For the Hawks, it's on to USC Monday for another game on their west coast swing, then back to Jersey shore.
