Miss America contestant asked controversial question about Janay Rice during pageant (VIDEO)

The Miss America pageant is a chance for beautiful women to show off their bodies, talent and sometimes asks its finalists to address tough issues as part of the question portion of the competition. 

On Sunday night, 2015 Miss America judge Kathy Ireland put Miss Florida, Victoria Cowen, on the spot when she threw the contestant a question about domestic violence — namely one about NFL star Ray Rice beating his then-fiancée, Janay Rice.

While domestic violence needs to be addressed and the Rice incident has been headlining the news all week — after a graphic video emerged and Janay Rice chose to stay with her husband —  Ireland infuriated a lot of women when she asked Cowen:

"As a woman, what do you think of her decision?"

Miss Florida's answer included a clear condemnation of Rice's actions, saying, "I don’t think that he deserves a second chance." But Twitter still blew up with angry tweets blasting the question about judging Janay Rice — which many felt sounded more like victim-blaming.

Of course the biggest problem with the whole incident was not Janay Rice's decision to stay with the former NFL star, but rather his decision to pummel her in the first place.

By the way, Miss New York won for the third year in a row.

DiGiorno Pizza apologizes after tweet about Ray Rice's domestic assault backfires: Report

DiGiorno Pizza learned the dangers of social media first hand — after its Twitter account joined a conversation about domestic violence and misunderstood the meaning behind a trending hashtag — by unintentionally sending out an offensive joke tweet Tuesday afternoon.

Following the release of a video that clearly showed footballer Ray Rice's brutal domestic assault of then-fiancee Janay Palmer in an Atlantic City hotel elevator, other abused and battered women took to Twitter to share their own violent stories, using #WhyIStayed.

That is when the DiGiorno account tweeted, "#WhyIStayed You had pizza."

The person behind the account quickly realized their mistake and apologized, writing, "A million apologies. Did not read what the hashtag was about before posting."

As angry tweeters fired back, DiGiorno then spent the entire day writing back individual responses on Twitter to the thousands who voiced their disgust thinking the brand would make light of something so horrible.

The pizza company's faux pas seems to have been forgiven by most, including MSNBC TV host Ronan Farrow, who retweeted the brand's apology after he wrote to them, "It's not delivery, it's domestic violence."

This, of course, is a cheesy play on DiGiorno's popular slogan, "It's not delivery, it's DiGiorno."

As a last ditch effort to clarify its unintentional goof, the brand offered up one final apology on Twitter Tuesday night:

"We heard from many of you, and we know we disappointed you. We understand, and we apologize to everyone for this mistake."
