Fan catches flying bat, gets a kiss as a reward (VIDEO)

There have already been some scary incidents with flying bats at MLB ballparks this season. So when San Francisco Giants pitcher Jake Peavy lost his grip and sent his bat hurtling into the stands at a rainy Nationals Park, everyone held their collective breaths.

Not to worry because this fan made a smooth, nonchalant grab of this wood missile and saved the day.

The alert hero even got a kiss from from the damsel next to him.

Jake Peavy talks about his special (and very large) good luck charm (VIDEO)

Good luck charms come in all shapes and sizes but I don't think there has been one as big as Jake Peavy's American Indian cigar store statue.

Before your PC meter flies off the charts, Peavy (who is part American Indian) bought the statuette at an antique shop in San Francisco after the two shared a special moment during an August road trip. The good-luck charm has since allegedly healed Jacoby Ellsbury, grown a beard and delivered valuable input in team meetings. Peavy talked about his new friend Tuesday before Boston defeated the Rays in Game 4 of the ALDS.

Sometimes these things work. Although it doesn't hurt to have Koji Uehara coming out of the bullpen either.

Derek Jeter gets hit by pitch in slo-mo

During Saturday afternoon's sweltering matinee in Yankee Stadium, Derek Jeter turned to avoid getting hit in the jewels by an inside pitch and— when replayed in slow-motion— it kind of looks like he was doing the Watusi or some other dance from the '60's.

Whether or not Jake Peavy's fifth-inning throw was intentional, Jeter just shook it a little more and took his base.

The Chicago White Sox pitcher might have just been trying to cool off the Yankees' bats which were as hot as the 100° temperature on the field.  By the sixth-inning, three of the Yankees four runs were solo home runs off of the Chicago righty.
