Mother and son brutally beat Mets fan outside Dodger Stadium: Report

A mother and son brutally beat a Mets fan after Friday night’s playoff game at Dodger Stadium — a bashing so savage, a friend of the victim says it caused the man to lose part of his skull.

Los Angeles police are still looking for the suspects and were planning to interview the unidentified victim who was in critical but stable condition, according to abc7.com.

The fight broke out around 10:30 p.m. in a parking lot after the Dodgers lost the opening game of the National League Division Series to the New York Mets when an argument between fans quickly escalated into violence, said police.

It wasn't clear whether those involved were Dodgers fans.

Detectives with the robbery-homicide division were interviewing witnesses and reviewing stadium surveillance footage, said authorities.

“We believe that it is a son and a mother who are responsible for this assault,” LAPD chief Charlie Beck said. “We believe that the weapon used were hands and feet.”

Witnesses said the victim was set upon and fell on his head.

“Embarrassed to be a Dodger fan as my Mets fan friend is in the hospital missing a piece of his skull after being hit by a lowlife,” a friend of the Mets fan posted on Twitter.

"I walked closer and there was a gentleman on the floor and was bleeding profusely from the head," witness Maria Cerecer told KABC-TV. "We got free rally towels that night, so they were holding the rally towels to his head."

This isn't the first time security at Dodger Stadium has come under national scrutiny. In 2011 an attack in the parking lot on opening day left San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow with brain damage.

Two men were later caught and imprisoned after pleading guilty to the assault.

Stow sued the Dodgers and their former owner Frank McCourt, saying they were to blame for the attack because of insufficient security and lighting.

He was awarded nearly $18 million for the incident.

For the deciding Game 5 of the NDLS on Thursday back in LA, Beck promised that cops would be out in force at Dodger Stadium.

“Particularly with the tensions between the teams right now and the fans obviously there has been a significant amount of rivalry here,” he said. “We will be a presence [at Game 5], there will be a sea of [LAPD] blue.”

Four arrested for beating in Dodger Stadium parking lot

A driver was beaten in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium after a game Sunday and four people have been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police reported today.

The driver, a man in his 20's, was listed in stable condition with cuts and scrapes to his face.  The Associated Press reports that the man was attacked after a minor collision with another car as he was pulling out of the parking lot.  Three men from another car also got involved.

"They basically held the victim down while the original suspect kicked and hit him about the head and face area while he was on the ground," said Sgt. David Armas.

A woman in thew victim's car who was eight months pregnant was not hurt but taken to the hospital as a precaution," said Armas.

The parking lot violence comes just 14 months after a San Francisco Giants fan was brutally beaten after last year's Los Angeles Dodgers opening day game.  In that incident, Bryan Stow was beaten into a coma and left brain damaged in the parking lot.  The Dodgers promised to beef up security after that notorious attack.

Armas said Dodgers security staff and uniformed off-duty Los Angeles police were at the stadium Sunday and responded quickly.

The four men arrested were all in their twenties and charged with suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon because the victim was kicked, said Armas.  One of them suffered bumps and scrapes to his face, "probably as a result of the victim defending himself," Armas said.

Armas said the four men did not appear to have any street gang affiliations.

"It was just a fender-bender that just got totally out of hand," Armas said.

Dodgers Hire Ex-NYC Police Commish To Assess Stadium Security

The Los Angeles Dodgers have hired former NYC Police Commissioner and LAPD Cheif William Bratton to evaluate security policies and procedures at Dodger Stadium after a 41 year-old man was severely beaten in the stadium parking on Opening Day.

Hundreds of people formed a prayer vigil outside County-USC Hospital in Los Angeles in support of the "critically-injured" San Francisco Giants fan while the announcement to hire Bratton was made.

Security at Dodger Stadium was questioned after Bryon Stow was set upon by two men on March 31.  Stow, a paramedic from Santa Clara, is in a medically-induced coma, according to a spokesman from the LAPD.  Stow suffered a fractured skull and trauma to his brain said his neurologist, Dr. Gabriel Zada.

The beating has outraged the community-at-large and has fans complaining that attending a Dodger home game has become very dangerous.  L.A. officials have been calling for better security around the park for years.

Bratton, who has headed police forces in Boston, New York City and L.A. was hired to help the beleaguered franchise quiet the outcries and prevent the public relations nightmare from happening again.

Team owner Frank McCourt--who is already embroiled in a messy divorce involving the team with his wife Jamie--said that acquiring the expertise of Bratton is a step in the right direction.  "Bill Bratton is widely credited with spearheading modern community policing in America," said McCourt.  "There is no one better to lead a top-to-bottom review of our current practices and make recommendations to be implemented now and into the future."

Bratton was appointed as NYC Police Commissioner by  Mayor Rudolph Giuliani in 1994.  For two years, Bratton was credited with being a major force in modernizing the force and turning the crime-ridden streets into safe havens.

The reward for the arrest of Stow's two Dodger-clad assailants has increased to over $100,000.

According to the LAPD, Giants fan Stow and his friends were leaving Dodger Stadium when two men taunted then hit Stow from behind.  He was kicked while on the ground.  The suspects are described as male Hispanics between the ages of 18 and 25.

According to L.A. County supervisor Michael Antonovich, the fright factor outside the ballpark is real.  "For anyone to suggest security at Dodger  Stadium is adequate is simply putting their head in the sand," he said.
