NYC broadcasters blast Daniel Murphy's paternity leave: 'They should have had a C-section!' (VIDEO)

Right before Mike Francesa blasted Daniel Murphy for missing the first two games of the season while on paternity leave, two other New York sports radio hosts were criticizing the New York Mets second baseman for staying with his wife for the birth of their first child.

WFAN morning host Boomer Esiason said Murphy should have forced his wife to have a C-section before the season to help him avoid missing the first few games.

The team has not publicly complained about Murphy missing time, but Esiason's co-host Craig Carton insisted the infielder "get [his] ass back... [to] play baseball."

Yesterday afternoon WFAN host Francesa called paternity leave a "scam" and a "gimmick."

Murphy is allowed one to three days off, according to a provision in the 2011 collective bargaining agreement between owners and the player’s union – much less than the two weeks guaranteed by the federal government.

Esiason, himself a former NFL quarterback, argued Murphy should have told his wife to ‘have a C-section before the season starts’ because he needs "to be at Opening Day."

Carton agreed with the former Jets signal caller, saying "assuming the birth went well, the wife is fine, the baby is fine, 24 hours and then you get your ass back to your team and you play baseball."

"That’s my take on it," Carton continued. "There’s nothing you can do anyway, you’re not breastfeeding the kid."

Esiasion summed up his ranting by saying "[men] don’t have the plumbing to take care of what needs to be taken care of."

Anger over the 29-year-old Murphy's time away kept boiling over into the afternoon.

"One day I understand. And in the old days they didn’t do that. But one day, go see the baby be born and come back," said Francesa later in the day.

"You’re a Major League Baseball player. You can hire a nurse to take care of the baby if your wife needs help," he continued.

The hosts made sure to clarify that were speaking only of situations where there were no medical complications, but the point was already made.

Daniel and Victoria Murphy, married since 2012, welcomed baby Noah into their lives March 31. 

The five year veteran was in Florida for the birth while his team opened the season in New York against the Washington Nationals.

Murphy is expected to suit up for Thursday’s game, the third of the season, against the Nationals – he has not publicly commented on the issue.

Chris Christie stiffs winner in fantasy football league: Report

It sounds like Chris Christie is more into backing up his Hudson River crossings than backing up his bets.

The embattled New Jersey governor — along with a group of deadbeat celebrities — stiffed the winner of their fantasy football league by not paying their entry fees, reported Page Six of The New York Post.

Christie was a member of a fantasy league associated with Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton’s WFAN show, “Boomer & Carton,” along with celebrity players including comic and sports host Jay Mohr, “Entourage” star Kevin Connolly, celebrity chef Bobby Flay, actor Robert Wuhl and Broadway star Constantine Maroulis, sources told the gossip site.

But when it came time to pay up at the end of the season, many of the losing celebs, including Christie, were slower than rush hour on the George Washington Bridge. 

“The buy-in was $500,” a source explained of the way the league worked. “The season goes till the Super Bowl. So as the season goes along, when each celeb player gets knocked out in the playoffs, the player puts in the money.”

When the season ended this year, the winner of the pool was “Rock of Ages” star Maroulis. But the majority of his fellow players never anted up the money they owed into the winner’s pool, and he got stiffed, sources said.

“Constantine was supposed to win $6,000,” said a source. “But he got, like, $2,000. The only famous guy who paid up was Connolly. The rest of the eclectic group, including Christie, didn’t pay up. There were 12 players in their pool.”

Christie’s spokesman and reps for the other players did not return requests for comment.

A rep for “Boomer & Carton” told Page Six: “It was a fun wager amongst friends, and a good time was had by all.”

The guv can always blame the delay on traffic.

Reggie Jackson's response to question about A-Rod is nearly three minutes of silence (Podcast)

Hall of Famer and New York Yankees legend Reggie Jackson recently appeared on WFAN with hosts Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton, and naturally enough the discussion made its way to current Yankee pariah Alex Rodriguez and his ongoing Biogenesis-related suspension.

During the bizarre Q&A segment,  Carton attempted to engage Jackson on the topic of A-Rod by "leading the witness," but the otherwise outspoken Mr. October would have none of it.

 In fact, Jackson didn't merely spin the question, offer a prepared response or a terse "no comment." Instead, Jackson — who was promoting his book, Becoming Mr.October — offered up almost three minutes of almost total silence after Carton asks him, "Does it [A-Rod's scandal] bother you?"

After almost nothing but the hosts' chatter about Reggie's friend "Al", Jackson still doesn't speak for nearly three minutes until they change the subject. 

Since Jackson in the recent past has been an A-Rod ally of sorts, this silence speaks volumes. Is he worn out over addressing the matter or is it a purging of the friendship. Perhaps both.

As for Jackson, here's about all he would say regarding Rodriguez: “I'm so proud. I can't believe I shut up (about A-Rod).”

WFAN's Craig Carton gets soaked in urine during drug test gone wrong (VIDEO)

Craig Carton and WFAN morning co-host Boomer Esiason from the Boomer and Carton Show decided to do a random drug test on Tuesday after the recent PED allegations came out about Alex Rodriguez. After an employee named “White Trash” was selected, producer Al Dukes came to collect the cup from alongside Carton.
