"So you could go to the Giants, here is my money. Love, Joe" the letter that his mom mailed read.
Jacobs— who signed with the San Francisco 49ers this off-season— posted a picture of the letter and the enclosed money on Twitter.
"The kid thought the giants didn't have enough money to bring me back, so he sent me 3.36 cent to come back it was the best ever," Jacobs wrote of the 6-year-old fan.
The Giants would have need a lot more than the young boy's contribution to keep the bruising running back. The team released Jacobs— who they owed $5 million for next year— and opted not to re-sign him.
Joe's mother apparently typed the letter which read:
"My 6-year-old son Joseph is a huge NY Giants fan. Last year he had the opportunity to go to a game and he fell in love with the team. He was very sad to hear that you and Mario Manningham are not longer with the team. When he asked me why you were going to SF I explained that the Giants did not have enough money to keep you. So, in an effort to convince you to return to NY he wrote you the enclosed letter, and included money for you from his piggy bank.
Joseph is just learning to read/write so I will help you by translating his letter."
I think Jacobs got the letter's intent— loud and clear.
"I almost cried, I am still trying to hold it in," Jacobs wrote. "I may have to pay him a surprise visit."
