Cal Poly,13-19, wins the Big West's automatic bid to NCAA Tournament (VIDEO)

If there was ever an ice cream's shot in hell of a team making the NCAA Tournament, it has to be Cal Poly.  

While conference tournaments allow for even the most unforeseen teams to play their way into the NCAA Tournament the Mustangs (now 13-19) topped Cal State Northridge 61-59 to earn its first Big West tournament title and the automatic bid.

It's the school's first trip to The Big Dance.

Seventh-seeded Cal Poly's bid makes it among the worst teams, record-wise, to ever qualify for an NCAA seed. This was possible because freshman guard Ridge Shipley nailed the go-ahead shot, a 3-pointer, with 13.7 seconds to go.

The Big West has existed with a tournament bracket for 39 years. No team seeded seventh had ever won it until the Mustangs. The team's improbable march to the NCAA Tournament was unexpected but not undeserved. The coastal California school took out the top-seeded UC Irvine Anteaters and No. 2 UCSB before getting to face Northridge in the finals. It was the third time this season Cal Poly beat Northridge.
