Investigators said several plainclothes and two uniformed officers patrolled the parking lots surrounding the stadium between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. while the Phillies played the Mets.
Police cited 61 people under the drinking age of 21 — including two juveniles younger than 18 — for allegedly possessing or consuming alcohol.
Underage drinking is a nationwide problem but just how many people hang out drinking in the parking lot during a Wednesday night game? The first pitch was at 7 p.m.
Authorities said they'll continue the crackdown at various times throughout the season.
Been tailgating at Phils game since i was 18 yrs old. I find it amusing that this makes yardbarker.com bc its Philadelphia. Anything to paint a light on how crazy and out of control our fans are. Just bc on a beautiful day cops go out and act like that is work. Please, how about the other 100-200 underagers that didnt get cited, got in the car and drove home. Thats a skewed stat, and its just another thing to make Philly look bad. Any passionate sports city tail gates, which also means, believe it or not that their are underage kids drinking. Tailgating is a big part of philly sports, i dont support high school kids drinking at all for the driving purpose, but dont act like the cops did something great here. 61 ppl is a small percentage. They probably casually walked around and picked and choosed whose day to the Phils game they were gonna ruin
ReplyDeleteexactly anon... the Nazis did this at Ohio State games a few years back when the pres. told em to get tough on EVERYBODY...
ReplyDeleteits a waste of tax payer money at a Phillies game this is where you want to crack down on crime? forget the shootings almost every night breakins robberies etc but go get them 20 and unders having a beer before a game! waste of time man power MONEY!
ReplyDeleteBetter to have them arrested than riding in an ambulance after they tear up their car & other people.
DeleteHey citing 61 underage kids is better than none. This is a huge problem in America. It needs to stop.
ReplyDeleteIt is illegal to tailgate in the city of Boston.
ReplyDeleteThere's nowhere to do it in Boston anyway except for two small parking lots close to the stadium. Just another reason why I hate Fenway. Instead of being able to grab a few cheap beers and have some fun before a game, we have to wait in line for one of the bars near the park and then spend $6-$8 per beer before we even get inside and spend another $40-$50. Weak.
DeleteMeanwhile there is a Dr in town killing babies.
ReplyDeleteAnd under that logic every day when you jerk off you are killing potential babies. Hey McConnell, peddle your anti-abortion crap in Kansas where it belongs, not on a sports website.
ReplyDeleteLOL Anonymous 1:09 PM. No one needs to make Philadelphia look bad
ReplyDeleteI say good job, and keep it up!! Sure it goes on everywhere elese, not just Philly. But I'm glad to read that Philly is the one doing something about it.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 12:18...assume your not from the area, fans get the worst rep here for the stupidest things. Their is a passion that cant be described and it happens all up and down the east coast, bc the Northeast has the most knowledgeable, loyal, and passionate fan bases, yet bc its Philly they become villainous. Nothing worst happens in Phily that doesnt happen in New York, Boston, Chicago, and college games. Remember most Philadelphia fans at teh games are from Suburan Philly and SOuthern NJ. Social-logically speaking upper middle class, its not barbaric inner city youths raging at sporting events.
ReplyDeleteGreat...you can legally vote, sign up for the military and possibly die, get charged for most crimes as an adult, own your own gun, but can't drink a beer. Are we still the only country in the western world that have this "artificial" drinking age ? GO PURITANS !
ReplyDeleteAre all Philly fans this bitter and anonymous?
ReplyDeletePhilly's a dirty freaking city! Was there for work last year, worst week of my life, why's everything old and rusty? And what's up with the baseball and basketball venues located damn near in another state? Dumpster junk.
