This video of Alexander Polli wearing a wingsuit and navigating his way through a narrow cave at a speed of 155 mph has gotten over a million hits since it was posted on YouTube — and it's easy to see why.
Polli cuts through the air above some rugged terrain after leaping from a helicopter over the Roca Foradaad Mountains in Montserrat, Spain. The Italian-Norwegian Batman free falls for about 20 seconds before heading for the slit in the mountainside — barely wider than himself — and amazingly threads (1:36 of the video) the slim gap.
Wingsuit flying athletes slice through the air using a special jumpsuit, called — naturally — a wingsuit. The suit adds surface area to the human body to enable a significant increase in lift.
In November 2012, Polli became the first jumper to successfully strike a wingsuit target. It was made of foam and around 10 ft tall.
