Jersey golf fans take over PGA Championship course during rain storm (VIDEO)

After the PGA Championship was suspended Saturday afternoon because of rain, and then was called, New Jersey fans did their best to turn the course at Baltusrol into their own private water park.

The Star-Ledger reported:

When play was suspended at 6:35 p.m., marshals headed for cover and no one knew what to do or where to go. [Leader Phil] Mickelson started to walk off the 14th green in the direction of the clubhouse.

Davis Love III, his playing partner, had to steer him in another direction.

"Phil, " he said. "Over here."

He slid under the ropes and walked across the fifth fairway.

Dozens of fans followed him, right across the course, slapping him on the back and tugging his shirt. He hopped into a maroon Buick minivan. Someone yelled, "Can we have a ride, Phil?"

Fans trampled up the 17th fairway, without a marshal in sight to shepherd them off. They practiced imaginary shots and walked through the sand traps.

Retief Goosen and Jason Bohn had marked their balls on the fairway.

"Who knows if someone picked one up," said Rupert Dooley, a marshal from the fourth hole who tried - unsuccessfully - to steer the crowds away. "Idiots."

Weather delays are unavoidable and lightning cells forced PGA officials to sound the warning horns at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, but they could have taken more precautions for the last group of golfers set to tee off.

More rain is expected Sunday. So officials might want to offer some sort of directions to keep rambunctious fans occupied — like make a right off I-78 onto the Turnpike and take Exit 7A to Great Adventure.

Texas A&M coaches' sexist slideshow gets them temporarily canned

Texas A&M has suspended a pair of assistant football coaches for two weeks for what the school has described as a “failed attempt at humor” with a sexist slide show at a football clinic Wednesday night.

Their timing was really off when the two men picked a "Chalk Talk" event to show off their boys club comedic stylings in front of an audience of which was mostly women.

Photos that were shared on social media of the presentations displayed throughout the night showed sexist content — from the rewritten War Hymn to other “football rules” — and much of it could only be construed as having a sexual double entendre.
Coach Kevin Sumlin announced Friday night that offensive line coach Jim Turner and special teams coordinator Jeff Banks have been suspended without pay and will have to serve 20 hours of community service.

“There is absolutely no place in our program or in our University community for inappropriate conduct or degrading comments towards women, or anyone, regardless of intent,” Sumlin said.

Sumlin said he attended the event but was interacting with attendees and was unaware of the content in the presentation by Turner and Banks until Friday.

“On behalf of Aggie Football, I want to apologize for the comments at Chalk Talk and also for my failure to review their individual presentations,” Sumlin said. “I want to thank the almost 700 women who came out this week who not only participated in the program but who supported a worthy cause in the Twin City Mission.”

The Aggies will begin preseason practice next week and open the season Sept. 3 at home against UCLA.

Warren Sapp bitten by shark while lobster fishing  in Florida Keys (PHOTO)

Warren Sapp is usually the one best known for mouthing off wherever he goes, but the NFL Hall of Famer finally met his match while fishing for lobster in the Florida Keys.

The former defensive end was bitten on the elbow by a shark during a fishing trip, but is reportedly alright after getting sacked by Jaws — and I don't mean the former Eagles quarterback.

"It's simple. He was lobstering with me and a shark bit Sapp while he was grabbing the lobster,” Jack Carlson, captain of the charter fishing boat, told the Tampa Bay Times via text message.

Sapp posted a photo of his haul of spiny lobsters to Twitter, saying “Shark got a little chuck of Me. We got Dinner!”

White Sox pitcher Chris Sale benched after cutting up throwback uniforms before game

The Chicago White Sox scratched starting pitcher Chris Sale from a game against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night after he reportedly cut up the team's throwback uniforms before the game because he found them uncomfortable.

A statement released by Rick Hahn, the team's general manager, initially said that Sale was sent home from the ballpark because of a 'non-physical incident' in the clubhouse. But it was later revealed that the 5-time All-Star threw the bizarre tantrum after the team was forced to wear the White Sox's 1976 throwback uniforms for the game.

Sale said he found the throwback uniforms to be uncomfortable and asked that they not have to wear them while he was on the mound, according to Fox Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal.

Many at first speculated that Sale was a last-minute scratch from the game because the 27-year-old was down with an illness or was going to being traded. But things 'escalated' when management wouldn't relent on his wish to not wear the bulkier throwback and he turned the, let's be honest, fashion disasters all into irregulars.

Sale then reportedly got upset and cut up the uniforms during batting practice because he claimed that 'PR and jersey sales were more important than winning' and wanted to make sure nobody could wear them, a source told Rosenthal.

The 1976 navy blue and white throwback jerseys have been on the White Sox's promotional schedule all year and were tied to a giveaway during the game. The team wore the 1983 white, red and blue throwback unis instead.

The temperamental Sale has had prior run-ins with the White Sox including calling out the team after Adam LaRoche quit when they asked LaRoche to scale back on bringing his 14-year-old son into the clubhouse.

Matt Albers started Saturday night's game in Sales' place after the uniform shredding. The game was suspended after the eighth inning following a lengthy rainy delay and will continue from the top off the ninth Sunday afternoon, with the series finale to follow after its completion. Manager Robin Ventura said Sale will not start the second game; Jose Quintana will stay on schedule and get the nod against the Tigers.

Hahn said that the incident involving Sale was being investigated by the club but you can bet the incident won't diminish interest from other teams in trading for the lanky left-hander.

Michael Page rolls Pokemon at Evangelista Santos after skull crushing knee kick at Bellator MMA (VIDEO)

It looked like just any other dramatic MMA knockout when Michael "Venom" Page sent Evangelista Santos straight to the canvas with a spectacular flying knee kick at Bellator MMA's debut event in London on Saturday night — except for the fact that it might have been the first time a fighter ever rolled a Pokeman at his fallen opponent.

But after the 38-year-old Brazilian went down clutching his head in pain, referee John McCarthy made sure to stop the fight  — and for good reason.

The kick, which McCarthy later told Bellator commentator Jimmy Smith was the hardest knee he had ever witnessed in more than 20 years of combat sports officiating, had dented Santos's skull so badly that the damage was actually life threatening.

Photos later posted by the veteran fighter, as well as a digital scan, showed the gruesome results of Page's head crushing knee shot.

Here's video of the KO and Page taking Pokemon Go to the next level:

The injury was bad enough for the fighter's ex-wife and famous female MMA star Chris Cyborg to promote a crowd-funding site for surgery.

"Fight fans Please say a prayer for my ex-husband Cyborg Santos. Many of you watched him fight on Spike TV this weekend when he suffered this injury while fighting in London.

"Cyborg is still in the hospital in the UK, and they are not sure when he will be able to fly again. He has not had surgery yet and their is worry the brain can continue to swell causing more damage.

The DR said this very Easily could have been life threatening."

And while UFC commentator Joe Rogan posted a link to the Go Fund Me page — saying the injury was the worst he had ever seen inflicted in a mixed martial arts fight — it also raises the question of why Santos' insurance or Bellator aren't doing more for the fighter.

Page, who improved his undefeated record to 11-0 with his seventh knockout victory on Saturday also took to social media to wish his opponent the best.

Ash Ketchum couldn't have put it better.

Travis Peterkin and Radivoje Kalajdzic in talks for ShoBox fight

Brooklyn's own Travis (Notorious) Peterkin and Radivoje (Hot Rod) Kalajdzic, by way of Bosnia, are in talks to face each other, possibly in September on a Showtime ShoBox telecast, according to insiders.

Promoter Lou DiBella, who works with both fighters, told RingTV.com on Wednesday that the light heavyweight bout is in the works.

For Kalajdzic, it would be the second straight undefeated prospect he’s faced after he nearly upseting former U.S. Olympian Marcus Brown, losing a split decision on April 16 at Barclays Center. The 25-year-old Peterkin (16-0-1, 7 knockouts) would also be facing another undefeated fighter after he drew with 2008 Olympian Lenin Castillo in Aug. of 2015, also at Barclays Center.

Radivoje Kalajdzic

Peterkin, a strong athletic fighter from Brooklyn, won his last fight, a slow-paced, eight-round decision against Larry Pryor in March at BB King’s in Manhattan, but seems well prepared to showcase his true potential. The 24-year-old Kalajdzic (21-1, 14 knockouts) of Saint Petersburg, Florida, has not fought since the controversial loss to Browne.

The venue for a proposed fight between Kalajdzic and Peterkin is still up in the air but it wouldn’t take place at Barclays Center, DiBella said.

Quartet sparks controversy for adding 'All Lives Matter' into Canadian national anthem before All Star Game

A Canadian singing quartet found itself creating a bit of controversy when they changed a lyric in our neighbor to the north's national anthem and held up a sign proclaiming “All Lives Matter” during its pregame performance at the 87th All-Star Game on Tuesday.

The Tenors, a group based in British Columbia, found themselves knee deep in mustard and maple syrup at Petco Park after their unexpected lyric change while singing “O Canada.”

Trying to make some sort of political statement, The Tenors chose to sing: “We’re all brothers and sisters. All lives matter to the great.” The normal lyric is “With glowing hearts we see thee rise. The True North strong and free.”
One member of the group chose the moment to hold up the sign during the middle portion of the anthem, which is often sung in French at sporting events.

“United We Stand” was written on the back of the sign.
Although the audio wasn’t crystal-clear at the park, many fans reacted with surprise when they saw the sign on the ballpark video scoreboard. The Canadian anthem wasn’t shown live on U.S. television, but it aired in Canada, where the Tenors’ decisions lit up social media with overwhelming criticism of the change while managing to anger two countries at once.

“All Lives Matter” has become a common online response in recent months to the “Black Lives Matter” movement but the phrase is widely perceived to some as a trivialization of the problems specifically facing the African-American community.

The award winning group, which includes Clifton Murray, Fraser Walters, Remigio Pereira and Victor Micallef, has recorded multiple platinum albums in Canada while performing around the world. It later issued an an apology saying Pereira acted as a "lone wolf" and would not be performing with them until further notice.

Pereira later took to Twitter to try and explain himself, saying things like "I've been so moved lately by the tragic loss of life and I hoped for a positive statement that would bring us ALL together. ONE LOVE." and "Once we awaken the love within, we will never be without. Peace be with us all. Remi."

And the unemployment cheques start arriving ... quand?

Texas Rangers' Joey Gallo posts tribute to officer killed in Dallas sniper shootings

On Friday, a full day after 12 police officers were ambushed and five left for dead by a sniper during a protest over police brutality in Dallas, the outcry and condemnation of the assassinations from the sports world is, relatively speaking, the sound of crickets compared to the social media drum beating about injustices regarding other national issues.

But at least one professional sportsman said something to pay tribute.

Joey Gallo remembered a chance meeting with one of the slain officers and posted a heartfelt message on Instagram about Patrick Zamarripa — a hero cop the Texas Rangers' 22-year-old prospect won't — and didn't — forget.

Gallo says he had met 32-year-old Zamarripa in Dallas once while he was walking around with teammate Nomar Mazara.

“He was an avid Rangers fan. But more importantly a great person, and family man,” Gallo wrote. “Please keep Patrick, and all the officers affected and their families in our prayers today.”
Here's the photo of that encounter and the story behind it via Gallo's Instagram account:

We shouldn't forget Zamarripa was a father who served three tours in Iraq and was just doing his job.

Gallo may be struggling in Triple-A ball right now, but at least he remembered.

Cubs fan carted off field after falling onto warning track (VIDEO)

A man was carted off Wrigley Field and hospitalized after he slipped and fell while attempting to jump from the bleachers before a game between the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs on Thursday night.

The Cubs, who didn’t identify the man, said in a statement the fan “was injured after attempting to jump onto the field.”

The incident happened around 7 p.m., about the scheduled start time, but the tarp was on the field because of earlier heavy rain. The game later began after a delay of 1 hour, 35 minutes.

The man, dressed in shorts and sneakers, was face down just in front of the ivy in right-center field when officials started running from the dugouts to assist him. They immediately checked his pulse while a medic ran in from right field.

It took three people to turn the man over onto his back. They then pulled up his shirt and put on a brace to stabilize his neck before strapping him onto a backboard and loading him into a cart. Witnesses said he appeared to be awake as they carted him from the field.

The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

“We will remain in contact with the fan’s family to stay updated on his progress,” the team said.

Female hammer thrower hits official in groin with errant toss (VIDEO)

Hanging around a track and field event can sometimes be a sport in itself — with all of those javelins sailing, shot puts flying and runners to dodge. And one poor official found found out the hard way that there are even hammers to look out for.

In a video posted by New Zealand Olympic champion Valerie Adams an unnamed blond-haired woman released the nine pound block of iron right into the private parts of the unsuspecting man.

After spinning around to gain as much speed as possible, the woman sent the hammer sailing towards the guy who wasn't even behind a net and didn't have time to save his boys.

Adams, who is training in Switzerland at the moment, later noted on the Instagram video: "That would have hurt..."

Derek Jeter finds himself in restricted waters with fiancee Hannah Davis

Derek Jeter might have been captain of the New York Yankees, but when it comes to navigating actual waterways, the former shortstop is more like the Skipper of the S.S. Minnow than a five-time World Series winner.

At least on the Fourth of July when the Yankees icon was issued a $250 fine and $30 processing fee for boating in a restricted area near MacDill Air Force Base off the coast of Tampa while enjoying a day on the water with his fiancee Hannah Davis.

But it was what the Air Force security team who detained Jeter and his beautiful first mate did afterwards what probably hurt Jeets the most. That's because an active-duty Air Force member posted a photo of the citation on Facebook with the caption, “On behalf of the Boston Red Sox, here is your ticket Derek Jeter.”

The post was later deleted but not before a screenshot was picked up for all to see.

On Tuesday, the Air Force issued a news release apologized about posting the citation on social media and said they would be disciplining the airman who made the post.

"This action is totally inconsistent with Air Force values and the responsible Airman will face the appropriate disciplinary action," MacDill spokesman Terry Montrose said. "We sincerely apologize to Mr. Jeter for any inconvenience."

It is unclear how close Jeter drifted towards the military base, but signs are posted about 2,500 feet from the shoreline warning boaters to stay away.
