Cyclist shows off gruesome injuries after 50-rider pile-up at Scheldeprijs Classic (VIDEO/PHOTOS)

A brutal 50-rider pile-up (video at bottom) in the final kilometer of the Scheldeprijs one day Classic in Belgium sure left a lot of scrapes and cuts on the cyclists. But one of the injured riders wanted everyone to see just how gruesome these crashes could be.

Sam Bennett was taken to hospital after the spectacular crash on Monday and, although he escaped without any long-lasting injuries, the 24-year-old suffered severe cuts on his back and shoulders.

The former NetApp-Endura racer, who was in contention to improve on his fifth-place finish in 2014, took to Instagram after the race to upload pictures from his hospital bed.

WARNING: Graphic images.

And besides his raspberry-covered body, you can see deep gashes where some gear teeth gnawed into his body.

"He is okay, but in pain," said his Bora-Argon18 team director. "He fell on his head and he has whiplash.

"Even though we are confident that he'll be released shortly, we didn't want to risk anything. That's why we decided that Sam spends the night in the hospital."

Here's the crash from a birds-eye view:

Not exactly a ride in the park.
