Indonesian soccer player dies from spiking suffered on pitch (VIDEO)

A soccer player has died from an injury suffered on the pitch following a challenge during an Indonesian Premier League match.

Persiraja striker Akli Fairuz was injured after taking a cleats-up kick to his stomach from PSAP Sigli goalkeeper Agus Rahman as the pair raced for the ball in front of the goal over the weekend.

Fairuz's teammates, clearly angered by the rough tackle, argued on the pitch while the referee had to be moved away by security.

The injured Fairuz was substituted but managed to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines after the relatively innocuous-looking kick.

The 27-year-old Fairuz apparently wasn't aware of the extent of his injury and later had to be admitted to hospital.

Sadly, it was soon discovered that Fairuz had suffered bladder leakage and, a few days after the match, passed away from his internal injuries.
