Long Island high schooler throws perfect game, fans every batter in first varsity start (VIDEO)

The real question now for high school pitcher Michael Delio is Where are the Yankees?

Delio, a Long Island junior making his first varsity start, tossed a perfect game and struck out all 21 batters to lead Carle Place to a 15-0 win over Hempstead Tuesday in non-league game, reports Newsday.

"I've had dreams of throwing no-hitters and perfect games but nothing like this," Delio said after the amazing feat. "This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

Delio, who pitched on junior varsity for the previous two seasons, said his strategy was to get ahead early in the count with fastballs on the corner and then attack with his knuckle-curve.

"I just stayed focused," said Delio, whose fastball was in the mid-80s Tuesday. "I wanted to locate my pitches, get my curveball down in the zone and just play baseball."

Sounds like a perfect game plan.

  1. Even at a high school level, to throw a perfect game, and strike out all 21 batters is impressive. This kid displayed an incredible amount of poise. Hats off to him! (https://state.com/topic/high-school-junior-throws-perfect-baseba.1)

    1. I once pitched a perfect game that didn't count. Our starting pitcher walked the first 6 batters of the game. I came in to relieve and retired 21 in a row, even escaping the 1st inning without letting another run score. Felt good, but didn't count.

  6. Did they chart how many pitches he threw? How many strikes and balls? I'd love to see around 70 strikes and 10 balls for the 21 batters faced.

    1. Actually, you can have a 27 pitch game if every batter grounds or flies out on the 1st pitch.
