Jeter getting around Manhattan wearing protective boot

Hot on the heels of the news that Alex Rodriguez got the okay to start working out in Tampa next week, Derek Jeter was spotted stepping out around Manhattan Thursday wearing a bulky protective boot on his left foot.

The Yankees captain was spotted in the West Village, hobbling to his car with the protective boot on his surgically-repaired left ankle, reported The New York Daily News.

Jeter, at a press conference last week at Yankee Stadium, said that he planned on returning to the field "soon," but wouldn’t give a specific timetable. The 38-year-old shortstop broke his ankle during the ALCS last October and suffered a setback in spring training, derailing his plans to be ready for Opening Day.

"I've been told this bone will heal and when it heals I'll be ready to go," a smiling Jeter said last week. "It's frustrating that I can't magically make it heal sooner than it's taking, but I have no doubt I'll be back."

Jeter hasn’t been seen around the team much, spending most of his time rehabbing at the Yankees’ complex in Tampa but was spotted at Yankee Stadium this past week.

"To the fans, I’ll be back soon," the Captain said last Thursday.

For now, it's back down to Tampa for workouts with A-Rod.
