Desmond Bryant hit with lawsuit for drunken break-in

Desmond Bryant just signed a lucrative $34 million dollar deal with the Cleveland Browns last week and now it appears that the family whose home he "drunkenly broke into" on Feb. 24 wants a piece of it. Bryant's bizarre mugshot of the NFL star after his arrest launched a million cringes on the Internet.

A lawsuit seeking unspecified damages was filed yesterday in Miami-Dade circuit court against Bryant, 27, who just signed a five-year contract with the Browns.

Bryant told police that he thought he was at his home when a taxi dropped him off after a night of drinking in Miami in the early morning hours the night of the incident.

But it wasn't his house. It was the home of Isaac Bakar, a 43-year-old contractor who thought the massive athlete was there to rob the place.  Bakar lives there with his wife, Iris, and their three kids.

At 5'11" and 173 pounds, Mr Bakar struggled to hold the door to keep the 6'6" and 311-pound defensive lineman from entering while his wife called 911. The Bakars charge that Bryant tried to break down the door, and even ripped off a door handle.

"They were scared," said the family attorney, Robert Fiore. "My client was holding on for dear life."

It was reported that Bryant was still furiously punching at the door when cops arrived. He was arrested and charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief, and later released after posting $1,000 bail.

The lineman's mugshot from the police booking shows Bryant shirtless with his mouth gaping open and has become an Internet phenomenon.

Bryant apologized for his arrest, saying the incident was a "mistake" and that "it's not really the kind of person I am."

Still, it's funny to see that photo again.

  1. He should thank his lucky stars that the homeowner did not have a gun. (signed, Jim Ray)

  2. Had the homeowner had a gun and used it he would have been perfectly within his rights. Guess Desmond is lucky to be breathing today. If it would have been my home the undertaker would be wiping his behind.

    1. I totally 100% agree with you and the sad truth to that is that society has so many pussies running around who would deem it as unfair to shoot a person and I say its time for some personal accountability and responsibility,You dont want to get shot,Dont go out drinking and acting like an assclown,Its time for common sense to start prevailing again! How sad is it that the NFL hasnt spoken up about personal conduct or something I guess the Browns are that hard up that they will just turn their collective heads!Maybe next time he can get that Dallas Cowboy to drive him around and they can both crash together and maybe parish and then just watch all the sadness and the need to address the problem and they will probably attribute everything to repeated shots in the head,No its from repeated shots in the mouth with Booze!

  7. Pay up son and be grateful the guy didn't empty a gun into your drunk butt. Hats off though for being smart enough to take a cab. Thats the advantage of an Ivy League education.

  8. Absolutely no excuses for his behavior, but it was a mistake. I would love to how many of you have not been intoxicated at some point in time in your lives (or buzzed)and made an error in judgment or behaved like an a$$. It was stupid, childish, and irresponsible, yes. Especially for someone in the public eye. But, it was a mistake. And in true American fashion, the family hires a lawyer so that they can be financially made whole, for their pain and suffering due to their "holding on for dear life." Mmm hmm. He's a complete idiot for putting himself in this position. But he was drunk!. They're using the situation to come up on some fast cash. What's their excuse?

    1. I agree is more about greed in the homeowner expecting a "piece" of the $$$.

    2. The homeowner doesn't need an excuse. The homwowner did nothing wrong. He is the one who needs a damn excuse. And being drunk is not an excuse. I hope they take him to the cleaners. I hope he gets jail time too. Not that it will do much good. He won't learn. He will be in the news again for some stupid act. Like others have said, he is lucky to be alive.

  10. Yes, I can remember in my younger days getting bombed...but not door busting drunk just happy drunk and then passing out. Mr. Bryant is lucky that he's not "waking" up in the morgue. Let's hope the lawsuit won't go overboard and reward a ridiculous amount like so many lawsuits do.

  11. at least he had enough sense to take a cab

  12. If the turd would have busted down my door, the trash truck would be hauling his sorry ass away. It would have been a mistake alright, a fatal mistake !!!

  13. At least he didn't drive drunk! Ok- I understand the family was scared, etc, etc. But really, what did he do? No one got hurt. Think of it from his point of view. He's bombed, "thinks" he's at home and someone is preventing him from getting into his "own" house, so he tries to force his way in. The cops got there and he was not even in the house yet. So aside from some property damage and free tickets to a game, he really doesn't owe them anything.

    1. I agree, it was strange to see that noone picked up on the fact that "when the taxi" dropped him off. I praise him for not drinking and driving but WOW, how drunk are you that you can't tell your house from another?

  14. OK so his Harvard educated drunk ass tried to break into someones house.... that makes it all better.

  16. He looks really intelligent...I don't get why they don't have morals clauses in sports contracts. It seems like when these people get signed to a contract, they get stupid. They start acting like their shit don't stink (they probably acted like that before, but it wasn't publicized because they weren't famous) and drug it up and drink it up and smack their women around and then pull the race card. Don't these people know they're role models? Kids look up to them aspire to be like them and they're acting stupid??? Maybe if they knew they could lose their millions if they got arrested that would straighten them up. Like they've told us in every job I've ever had; if you don't like the rules of the job, there are hundreds of people lined up to take it.

  17. Lets just blame Bush....I am sure he had something to do with obviously racially motivated incident....just ask Kanye.

  18. People - I refuse to classify Bryant as a thug or loser because he was extremely drunk and confused. I have seen hundreds of otherwise good people do extremely stupid things when drunk. I have seen many attempt to get into the wrong house or apartment. It is fairly common. Glad he wasn't shot and the family is certainly entitled to file a civil suit. The only cost will be to Bryant - not society at large. He will pay for his mistake. Hopefully he learns from it. He is an intelligent young man and at least had the good sense to get a cab. I hope it all works out well for both him and the homeowner.

  19. John 8:7, people. None of you have done stupid things drunk? Not known where you were? Been belligerent when you subsequently got confused? None of you have made a mistake?

If you've never made a mistake, give me your name, and I'll nominate you for canonization. Otherwise, STFU.

  21. for a guy that went to harvard, he is the biggest moron on earth. he's lucky he still walking. the owner should have put some bullets in his behind. i think the cops found out he was a pro player, because you or i would have been in jail and with a bigger bail amount. lets hope he pays for it.
