Iverson is a pathetic excuse for a parent says judge

If Allen Iverson wasn't the poster boy for everything an NBA player could do wrong off the court — he is now.

Arguably once considered the best pound-for-pound player in the league, A.I. has seen his share of financial, personal and marital troubles over the years but now a judge is calling the former NBA star a terrible father.

Iverson just officially became a single man — after the ATL judge signed off on his divorce from Tawanna Iverson ... the mother of his five children, according to TMZ.com.

The magistrate, reports TMZ,  then unloaded on Iverson saying:

[Iverson] does not know how to mange the children; has little interest in learning to mange the children and has actually, at times, been a hindrance to their spiritual and emotional growth and development.

For example, he refused to attend an obvious and serious alcohol problem, which has caused him to do inappropriate things in the presence of the children while impaired.

He has left the children alone without supervision.  He has left his young daughters in a hotel room with men who are unknown to the mother.

Kind of sounds like how A.I. handled his teams during his 14 years in the NBA.

Tawanna has been awarded legal and physical custody of the kids.  Iverson, the father,  has some visitation rights but with strict conditions.  Among them:

Iverson must not drink a drop of alcohol for the next 18 months. And — until all of his children reach the age of 18 — he can't consume alcohol within 24 hours of visiting with the kids.

The 37-year-old Iverson — who recently declined an invite with a Mavericks' D-League affiliate — has been ordered to seek professional help and attend AA meeting.

According to sources, the $200 million he earned over the course of his NBA career is gone too.

Such a sad, sad story.
