Shamed Cam Newton won't give Giants credit for Panthers loss

Cam Newton faced the media — after Thursday night's 36-7 blowout of his Carolina Panthers by the New York Giants — and, with closed eyes and bowed head, he apologized to the Carolina fans for the his team's lousy performance.

At the same time, Newton didn't exactly give the Giants defense much credit for the rout.

The second-year quarterback finished the game with three interceptions and completed only 16-of-30 passes.  Yet, he still thinks it had to do more with the Panthers than the Giants preparation and execution.

"It was nothing they did; it was all on us," said Newton.  "Of course, they have elite defensive linemen and elite players on their defense, but it wasn't so much what they did as what we didn't do."

Huh?

Whatever the reason Newton thinks the Panthers were beaten like a Grand Canyon mule, he admitted it was embarrassing.

"Who wants to support something that puts on a performance of embarrassment?  If I was a fan of the Carolina Panthers, I would be holding my head down in shame of the product that was out there today."

Panthers head coach Ron Rivera wasn't as gloomy as his quarterback — nor as uncomplimentary.  He conceded that the Giants outperformed his team from top to bottom.

"They were the better  football team.  That's then truth of the matter," said Rivera.  "They out-coached us and out-played us.  That's the bottom line.  We came out, we didn't execute well.  Then we self-destructed in a couple of different ways.  You can't do that against a very good football team.  That's who we played — a very good football team."

  1. Newton needs to quit being a baby!!!! I kept hearing the announcers calling him superman and he did that superman thing he does......shouldn't he win something first or be a little more successful in the NFL before he does something like that or announcer call him that.

  2. All these players doing their selfcentered celebrations when their team is getting beat by 3 or more scores late in the game should be benched and fined by their coaches and owners.

  3. Cam Newton was sulking last night like a little child who didnt get his way. The cameras kept cutting to him on the sidelines during the fourth quarter and he was just sitting on the bench with his towel over his head and a sour look on his face. Eli Manning made his traditional walk out to midfield for a post game handshake and was visibly waiting and looking for Newton. He waited for quite a while before and shook several panther hands before Newton finally showed up. Newton is a gifted athlete but sure had a crummy attitude last night in a loss.

  4. Well, when he loses his Heisman, he will have something to cry about then. He should lose it, if Reggie had too. Or give Reggie his back. What the puck? But I guess that would be fair, and we Cam't have that!

  5. Cam needs to grow up, this is the big leagues, you take your beating like a man and get back up. Instead Cammy whaaamy wants to sulk and cry while looking pathetic like a lost child. He needs humble pie, that's what brings you down to reality and makes you better. Giants had many injuries and less days to prepare, did they cry about it? No, they brought there A game. Cam Newton is a great talent and is a heck of an athlete but it pisses me off when people with great talent who are used to getting there way rather sulk then man up.

  7. Why do gm's insist on draafting black qbs, its completely obvious that a black mans decision making ability FAILS when its compared to a white mans.
Proof: how many black men do you see having 9 or 10 kids with 8 or 9 different women. How many white men do you see having 9 or 10 kids with 8 or 9 different women. THATS PROOF

Black qb's are more interested in running the damm ball instead of throwing the ball. If this isnt true show me the black qb that has finbished in the top 10 of rating in the last 5 years. Vick was best last year in 14th place.

  8. I actually think Cam's gonna be just fine, it's surprising to see the lack of intelligence and awareness of media slant in this article and comments section..Yes, it's true he gave the game away, but it's also true that he was beat by a decent team that night. Accountability is all time low seems like it's at an all time low these days.
