High school star Tony Farmer faints in court after getting three year sentence

Tony Farmer— the highly-recruited high school basketball star had his anticipated high-flying college career come crashing down to the ground on Tuesday.

Farmer, from Garfield Heights, Ohio was sentenced to three years in prison for kidnapping and assault of his ex-girlfriend Andrea Lane.

The 18-year old basketball star looked shocked when his sentence was announced by the judge before he turned to his attorney and collapsed to the floor after fainting.

Farmer, a 6-foot-6 forward, was ranked as one of the top-100 high school players in the class of 2013 and was being courted by the likes of Dayton, Xavier, Ohio State, Michigan State, Iowa, West Virginia and Illinois.

His sentence will be reviewed after 180 days and the schools will have to wait and see how the case plays out, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The incident took place last April in the lobby and parking lot of Farmer's apartment complex.  It was caught on a building security camera.  Farmer also reportedly threatened Lane via text messages.

    1. nice world you live in. talented? this world needs more "talented" people - after all it's really just about them (and those who feed off them). Damn the people who are trampled underfoot to "give me what is mine" - because after all, i'm talented. Responsibility, accountability, respect and consideration.....seems those have all fallen out of favor these days.

    1. This is a very sad story to read about. however, this young man knew and understood all eyes were on him, I mean colleges, media, family, friends and his number one enemy (pride). I'm sorry this happened but I am also concern about the young lady he violated. allow me to close with this thought to you. "You can't make her love you but you must STOP yourself from stocking her. You are the Boss of your behavior! E.Jackson

    2. demetrick,
lets put you in his place and see if you still have the same opinion...

      OR

have the kidnapping & assault on someone very very close to you let's say your wife, girlfriend, or maybe your daughter.

      does your opinion change now?

    3. If this was so upsetting to the girlfriend why did she testify on his behalf and why was she sobbing in court. I think she made her story just a little too big that night and is now feeling guilty for it. I am not saying what Tony did was right but many other men have had similiar or even worse crimes that only got probation. Not to mention he had never been in trouble with the law before. He obviously plead guilty because of some agreement but then the judge did not care and screwed up another kids life for good, because you know he will come out of that prison and be just like the other thugs in there. Prisons do not help they create worse monsters.

  4. really...really ....do you know what happens in relationships when people love and hate each other at once...do you know the fine line between domestic violence and an emotional response...are you telling me that in a heated moment when you have pushed or grabbed your boyfriend or girlfriend if it is caught on tape..you deserve three years with hard criminals...haha is it funny that someone with so much promise has just lost his potential...what is a thug...someone black? perhaps...so i guess bush and his crew weren't thugs??? day in and day out i read the hate that comes from people, the lack of compassion for each other...take a minute think about his ex-girlfriend, see that she herself beg the judge not to give him jail time. why would she do that? what about his family? Its a cycle children are born to parents who are damage and dont get what they need and they go on and damage others? the judge is up for reelection...what role does that play???wake up world we are all going to suffer if we continue to only show love and compassion to our friends and family...

    2. oh please I am white and think this young man got screwed. His girlfriend is not scared, she was there at court begging for him not to go to jail, I dont know maybe because she created a bigger story for the cops that night. and I do think his court appointed attorney told him that he would only get probation. Sounds fishy to me, lets see judge up for reelection, girlfriend begging the judge not to put him in jail. Yup does not add up to me.

  5. I really feel for this young man. Another young black man off to prison. We as parents need to tell our young men that ladies are precious and should never be hit on or miss treated. Black athletes especially, should watch what they do at all times and realize it's their future, make the right decisions. No female is worth you spending any time in jail for. I pray everything turn around for him.

  8. Black, White, Red, Yellow, Who cares what color he is! He detained and hit a woman. I don't care if it was his girlfriend, his mother or a stranger. The kids a punk!!!! ANY man who can find sympathy for a woman beater, no matter the amount of physical damage he caused, is a fool. And by the way Anonymous - (3:47PM), NO MAN should EVER grab, push or strike thier sister, mother, daughter girlfriend or wife no matter how heated an exchange gets. MAN UP PAL!!!!!

  10. If you have a sports dream, leave the girls alone until you get to college or the pros, and even then choose wisely. They'll get you EVERY time.

  13. dont get me wrong, you should never put your hands on a woman. but 3 years is a lot - some people get less than 5 for manslaughter. especially considering the victim begged the judge for leniency. he deserves to be punish ( maybe a year + a couple yrs probation of some sort)- but seems a bit harsh

    2. it wasnt an "actual" kidnapping. The assault happened outside her apartment,

He was also indicted on a kidnapping charge because, according to the report, he "by force, threat or deception, purposely removed the victim from the place where she was found or restrained her liberty for the purpose of terrorizing or inflicting serious physical harm."

  15. He reacted like that because his court appointed attorney lied to him, like all court appointed attorneys lie to their clients. They are part of the system and know what the judge is going to do before the sentence is given. Defendant attorneys want to be judges someday so they make sure to give the judge whatever they want. They are just court puppets.

  16. THEY SHOULDNT HAVE GAVE HIM 3 YEARS. HE SHOULD HAVE GOT AT LEAST A YEAR. THAT IS JUSS RACIST !

  17. This is very sad. I do think he needs to be punished but this is still a kid who made a dumb ass decision. I don't think he deserved jail time. Well let me say that depending on how severe the damages were to the young lady that would influence my decision. I think that the fact that she was in courst pleading to the judge for no jail time has to say something. I am african american and do not think that this is a white vs black thing but should have been handled differently.

  18. It is 2012 and I can not believe people of all races are still pulling the race card...really? Something else that is laughable is that someone brought up former President Bush. What does he have to do with this. I don't care if you are black, white, or mexican, this gentleman deserved some type of punishment, not just probation. Coming from an abusive home environment myself his girlfriend is just demonstrating what she was taught that abuse is okay. It's not okay to have to live through it or experience it. I hope one day she gets the therapy she needs so she will gain some self respect. Just because you are talented and bound for stardom in the NBA does not give you the right to do these type of things. I hope he gets some couseling in jail that will help him deal with his abusive problem. I really want to know why people think this is just a probation offense and why they are choosing to blame the lawyer? The Lawyer was not there participating in the offense so it's not his fault. The best way to avoid jail is to not commit crimes.

  19. If you were in Texas, you would be looking at 5 years or more. Some athletes do some dumb stuff and think that you can get away with it. You deserve what you got and lucky you didn't get more. Look at Mayweather, Dez Bryant and others who have done dumb stuff. I'll bet you will learn from them.
