Italian motorcycle racer's premature celebration with one lap to go in race

One of Italy's top motorcycle racers made an epic goof at the 2012 CIV championship race in Mugello when he started celebrating his victory without realizing that there was still  one lap to go until the finish line.

And unfortunately for the racer, Riccardo Russo, the embarrassing error was caught on tape.

Russo— one of Italy's top 600cc riders—  was leading last week's race on a Yamaha Team Italia FMI R6 by three bike lengths when he reached the start of the final lap.  Video shows Russo easing up on the throttle, throwing his arms up in the air in victory, then standing up on the foot pegs and fist-pumping as the other racers fly by to the actual finish line.

The sight of the starter unrolling the checkered flag in preparation for the final lap might have fooled Russo into thinking the race was over.

The gaffe landed the shocked Russo in 14th place.

Now repeat after me, uno, due, tre, quattro...
